HOW DIM CAN WE BE?

Before you start feeling all warm & fuzzy about Earth Day & Earth Hour, step back & look at how much civilization depends on carbon-based fuels.

By civilization I mean basic improvements to the human condition: medicine, running water, heat, food. Every one of those fundamental things developed or improved in the last two centuries have dramatically impacted the lives of everyone on the planet for the better, and they all come from carbon-based energy sources. Do you really want to live without those?

DON'T JUST DO SOMETHING, STAND THERE!

Be a part of something positive. Even if you've never done something like this before, joining the Tax Day Tea Party in your area will at least get the media's attention (assuming it's not a big news day for Angelina & Brad's adoption frenzy or the latest speculation on the size of Oprah's thighs) and let others know we are not alone.

Besides, you can take a morning off from work (or more likely just work more later to make it up), and pretend you're a hippie from the Sixties with unfulfilled ambitions rather than the responsible, family-raising, get-'er-done taxpayer you are.

CHECK THE FACTS

Many things are being foisted on us using "facts" that have to be checked. Like Universal Healthcare. Don't believe what you're told, from either side of any aisle; take the time to check out the facts (especially as we have more information available to us than any generation before!)

GET PERSPECTIVE ON MONEY

I'm trying to keep it all in perspective. Living from purpose, not fear (thank you, Ayn Rand) comes from reconciling my values and my lifestyle.

...and yes, those dang lolcats are funny. I don't care how unmanly it is!
